Why the app is called Smula

When I was asked to think about what to name the app I looked for something that felt warm, simple and meaningful. A name that not only described what the app does today, but also what we hope it will become in the future.
When I was asked to think about what to name the app I looked for something that felt warm, simple and meaningful. A name that not only described what the app does today, but also what we hope it will become in the future.
In the end we settled on Smula.
There are several reasons the name stuck. Partly the app is about helping families discover new favorite spots — playgrounds, changing tables, nursing rooms and other places that make everyday life a little easier.
But I also like the idea of a trail of crumbs. A single crumb is small and perhaps not particularly remarkable. But many crumbs together can show the way to something. That's roughly how I see Smula.
Every place that's added, every tip that's shared and every review that's written becomes a little crumb that helps the next family. Together they create a network of knowledge that makes it easier to discover new places and feel a little more at home, no matter where you are.
The vision is for Smula to become the go-to place for families with children who want to find and share their favorite spots. An app built by families, for families.
We still have a lot to do, but we believe the name captures exactly what we want to build: something small that, together with many other small contributions, can become something really big.
