Midsummer celebration ideas for families with children in Stockholm

Midsummer is one of the year's loveliest holidays. Flower crowns, strawberries, dancing around the midsummer pole and long days outdoors. With small children it can sometimes be hard to know where to celebrate. To make planning a bit easier we've gathered five lovely midsummer celebrations in the Stockholm area.
1. Skansen
If you dream of a true Astrid Lindgren midsummer, Skansen is hard to beat. Here you'll find dancing and games around the maypole together with Skansen's folk dance troupe and folk musicians.
The celebration takes place on Midsummer's Eve from 11:30 AM. Keep in mind that the maypole is raised before Skansen opens.

2. Vintervikens trädgård, Hägersten
Vinterviken is already a favourite among many families with children, and on midsummer the place becomes extra cosy.
Here you can dance around the midsummer pole to live folk music in a green and blooming setting. The café is open for anyone who wants to enjoy coffee and cake or lunch, and there's plenty of room for strollers and for kids to run around.
The celebration runs from 11:00 to 18:00.
3. Överjärva gård, Solna
If you're looking for a midsummer celebration with activities for the whole family, Överjärva gård is a great option.
Here you'll find traditional dancing around the midsummer pole, a fishing game, a five-game competition and flower crown making. When energy levels start to dip there's also a café serving midsummer food and treats.
The celebration runs from 11:00 to 16:00.
4. Nyckelviken, Nacka
Nyckelviken is a real gem for families with children. Here you can dance around the midsummer pole, take part in games and also visit the farm's animals. If legs get tired the café is open for both snacks and lunch.
An extra bonus is that a free midsummer bus runs shuttle services between Nacka stadshus and Nyckelviken during the day, which makes the outing a bit easier.
The celebration runs from 11:00 to 15:00.
5. Skarpnäcks koloniområde, Skarpnäck
For those who like smaller, more local festivities, midsummer at Skarpnäcks koloniområde is well worth a visit.
The festivities start with a communal walk to music, followed by classic midsummer activities like a fishing game, tin-can throwing, a chocolate wheel and other fun stalls for the children.
It's a charming, family-friendly celebration where it's easy to get into that special midsummer mood.
