Halloween with kids 2026 – suitably spooky tips in Malmö, Stockholm and Göteborg

By SMULA · 25 October 2026

Pumpkins in the windows, little ghosts on a walk and maybe a flutter in the tummy. Halloween doesn't have to be very scary to become a lovely memory. Here we've gathered tips for families with children in Malmö, Stockholm and Göteborg – from fairy-tale play and crafting to adventures for slightly older kids.

Halloween falls on Saturday, 31 October 2026, but much is already happening during the autumn break. Choose what suits your child. For some, a costume and a treat are more than enough. Others long for darkness, mysteries and ghosts.

How scary is just right?

For the very smallest, a short outing in daylight can be the whole celebration. For preschoolers, stories, crafts and friendly characters can be a good start. School-aged children who want to try something spookier may enjoy mysteries or storytelling.

These are our suggestions, not the organizers' age limits. Where an organizer gives a recommended age or an actual age limit, we state it. Ask your child what feels fun and agree that you can stop at any time.

Malmö – crafting, stories and just the right amount of mystery

Skräckveckan i Folkets Park

From 26–31 October Folkets Park fills with circus, magic, music and creative activities. The activities take place both indoors and outdoors and are aimed at children of different ages.

That makes Skräckveckan a good place to start for families with siblings who want different things. Choose a program item based on the children's interests and how much thrill they want. Check the age recommendation, time, any fee and booking for that particular activity before you go.

Höstlov på Malmö museum

At Malmö museum the autumn break can offer lanterns made from sugar beets, traditional handicrafts and stories in the castle's prison tower. For children who like to create, the crafts can be the highlight of the outing. For those fascinated by history, the stories may be a more exciting option.

The museum is open every day during the autumn break and offers free admission for children and young people aged 0–19. Check the adult price and the conditions for individual activities and film screenings. Choose a program item based on the child's age; not all parts automatically suit the very youngest.

If you are visiting with a stroller or need an elevator, it's especially good to read the visitor information: an elevator change affects accessibility in parts of the castle.

En lugnare Halloween på Möllevångstorget

Malmö stad has Halloween as the theme for the market at Möllevångstorget on 31 October. For families who prefer a small trip into town rather than attending a larger performance, it can be an option to check out.

Plan it as a market outing rather than a promised children's party. Check current times and content before the visit.

Stockholm – pumpkin disco or a day among the stories

Halloween på Skansen

From 28–31 October between 15:00–19:00 Halloween awaits at Skansen. Here you will find, among other things, a pumpkin disco, a parade and trick-or-treat. For children who want more thrills there are also spookier environments to choose.

For preschoolers who enjoy dressing up, the dance can be a nice start. Let the child's curiosity guide the rest. The cemetery effects from 17:00 are described as something for the braver ones.

Children 0–15 years have free admission, but when buying in advance a free child ticket must be booked. Adult admission is added. Trick-or-treat additionally requires its own booked time slot for each participant – including adults.

Junibacken för familjer som föredrar sagor

Not all children want to be scared. At Junibacken the autumn break program runs until 1 November, with theatre, Sagotåget and playful exhibitions.

It's an option for families who want an autumn break day of stories and imagination rather than horror. We think it's worth checking out for preschoolers and younger schoolchildren, but choose the performance according to the age information that applies to it.

Entrance is required, and theatre seats are booked separately in addition to a valid admission ticket or season pass. Check available seats before you decide.

Göteborg – nature mysteries and gentle creatures

Halloween på Universeum

At Universeum Halloween continues until 1 November. Here curiosity about nature meets things that can feel a bit creepy – and the organizer provides recommended ages:

  • Spindelvinden: från 5 år.
  • Professor Mycel: från 8 år.
  • Galleri Parasit: från 10 år.

It can be an indoor option for children who like little critters, puzzles and discoveries. The ages are the organizer's recommendations; also consider how your own child reacts to darkness and spooky environments.

Halloween at Liseberg runs until 1 November, open according to the park's calendar. For younger children and families who want to avoid horror, Liseberg recommends Kaninlandet and Sagoskogen, where the celebration has gentler elements.

There is no general age limit for park entry. Children under 110 centimetres enter free, but rides require the correct ride pass or coupons and each attraction has its own conditions.

For older children who want to be properly frightened themselves, an 11-year age limit applies in Vinden, Zombie, Nattsvart på Gasten and Skogen. The haunted house 7 has a 15-year age limit. Accompaniment by an adult does not substitute for the age limit.

Also consider the route through the park: some areas have darker environments, and in Clown and Demonernas Skugga actors may scare visitors from 18:00.

Make room for the small breaks

Preferably choose one main activity and leave breathing space around it. A sandwich, a quiet moment or the option to go home earlier can do more for the day than trying to fit everything in.

For the smallest ones, a pumpkin, a story and a short walk can be just right. With older children you can talk through what to expect and let them choose the level of adventure.

Feel free to use Smula to find practical stops along the way – changing tables, playgrounds and child-friendly places that make the outing easier.

We hope you have a cosy Halloween, with just the right amount of thrill for your family.
