Baby-friendly things to do in Stockholm
Parental leave in Stockholm and want to get out for a while? There are plenty of activities that suit life with a baby: stroller walks, stroller-friendly tours, baby swimming, baby theatre, singing, music and calm places where little children can crawl, touch and explore.
Here is a collected guide with concrete tips for days when you want fresh air, culture, rhythm classes or just a convenient place to settle with a stroller.
Nature and stroller walks
Stockholm has many green areas and nature reserves. For strollers, these are especially worth checking out:
- Lida Friluftsgård – here you can find the trail Skogsmulles hjulspår.
- Tyresta nationalpark – try Bylsjöpromenaden.
- Kungliga Nationalstadsparken – large walking paths through Stockholm. Guided walks are available via the Kungliga promenader app.
Museums for babies and 1-year-olds
For little children who want to crawl, feel and investigate at their own pace, there are several nice museum environments.
- Etnografiska museet has the exhibition Sagovärldar.
- Sjöhistoriska museet has the children's room Blubb.
Both suit the very youngest with soft rugs and things to handle and explore.
There are also recurring stroller tours and baby activities at Vrak and Scenkonstmuseet.
Storytimes at libraries
Several libraries in Stockholm organize storytimes for small children. A few libraries to keep an eye on are:
- Luma bibliotek
- Kista bibliotek
- Stadsbiblioteket
Baby rhythmics and infant massage
Baby rhythmics is a calm and cosy activity for you and your baby. Svenska kyrkan offers baby rhythmics in several parishes; among others, Engelbrekts församling has free baby rhythmics every week.
Other tips are:
- Maria Llerenas Babysalsarytmik on Södermalm
- Baby rhythmics at Kulturhuset Dieselverkstaden in Sickla
Open preschools with afternoon hours
Many open preschools are mainly open in the mornings, but there are exceptions. Open preschools with activities also in the afternoons can be found, for example, in:
- Rålambshovsparken
- Årsta
- Vasastan
Changing tables and nursing rooms in the city
If you quickly need a changing table or nursing room in central Stockholm, malls and department stores are often practical choices. In the city you can find changing tables and nursing rooms at, among others:
- Gallerian on Hamngata
- Mood-gallerian
- NK
- Åhlens City
When it rains
Rainy days work well for museums, libraries and indoor play areas. For babies and small children there are lovely environments at:
- Etnografiska museet
- Tekniska museet
- Sjöhistoriska museet
Here you’ll find children’s exhibitions with space for crawling and play.
At Kulturhuset Stadsteatern there is the library Rum för Barn. There are also shopping centres with play areas for children, for example:
- Nacka Forum
- Liljeholmsgallerian
- Ringen
