Active outings for children in Stockholm
For energetic children there are plenty of places in and around Stockholm where they can be active. Here the family can jump, climb, swim, run obstacle courses, ice skate or try a ski slope depending on the season and mood.
Indoor play centers for different ages
Traditional indoor play centers are usually best for children up to around 8–10 years. For older kids, more specialized activities like trampoline parks, climbing or laser tag often feel more fun.
- Leos Lekland is one of the larger operators and generally has big facilities.
- Many larger play centers also have separate areas for the youngest children.
- Lek & bus on Värmdö and Kaatach in Tyresö are examples of smaller play centers that often suit children around 3–8 years old.
Free outdoor exercise
Stockholm has over 100 outdoor gyms that are free and open year-round. They are mainly built for adults, but some elements such as balance, monkey bars and climbing can work for somewhat older children.
Several playgrounds in the city also have more physical features, like obstacle courses and climbing play. Stockholm City also has special parkour facilities in Tensta, Nälsta and Rågsved.
Climbing with children
For families who want to try climbing there are several options in Stockholm. The recommended age is often around 6 years.
- Karbin Klätterhall in Hägersten
- Klättercentret in Solna, Telefonplan and Akalla
- Klätterverket in Sickla and at Gasverket in Norra Djurgårdsstaden
All of these offer climbing for children.
Trampoline parks and jumping for younger children
There are several trampoline parks around Stockholm. Yoump and JumpYard are two of the largest operators.
Even younger children can often have fun, especially during quieter times when there are fewer visitors. JumpYard in Arninge also has Jumpys värld, an activity area adapted for the youngest children.
Adventure pools near the city
For adventure pools close to the inner city, Eriksdalsbadet on Södermalm is the most central option.
Just outside Stockholm there are more pools with adventurous features, including:
- Gustavsbergsbadet on Värmdö
- Tyresö Aquarena
- Järfällabadet
- Sydpoolen in Södertälje

Good to keep in mind before visiting play centers
Play centers are often appreciated by children, but it can be nice to prepare a bit beforehand.
- Choose soft, comfortable clothes that are suitable for running, climbing and play.
- Socks are usually required, preferably non-slip socks.
- An adult needs to be present and is responsible for the children.
- For small children there are often special areas, which can be especially nice when there's a lot of noise and activity.
- Early visits can be calmer than later in the day.
- Bring a water bottle, since children easily get warm and thirsty.
- Many play centers have a café, but rules about bringing your own food can vary.
